Rose Souvenir de Madame Leonie Viennot

Rosa Souvenir de Madame Leonie Viennot is a vigorous Bourbon/Noisette climbing rose known for its cascading growth habit and beautifully mixed shades of soft pink, apricot, and salmon. The large, loosely-formed flowers carry a rich, fruity fragrance and appear repeatedly from late spring through to late autumn. Its abundant flowering and informal charm make it an eye-catching addition to any outdoor space.

Ideal for training over pergolas, fences, or archways, this rose suits cottage, heritage, and romantic garden designs. It also makes an effective privacy screen when grown as a free-standing shrub or large climber.
Plant in a sunny position with well-drained, moisture-retentive soil. Allow adequate airflow and space approximately 1.5–2 metres from neighbouring plants to encourage healthy flowering and growth.

Mature size: Reaches 3–5 metres in height with an arching, trailing form ideal for covering structures or sprawling with character through garden borders.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged wood and lightly shape the plant. As a vigorous climbing rose, train main stems horizontally to encourage more flowering shoots. After flowering, trim back side shoots to maintain form and encourage healthy new growth.

Deadheading: Not essential, as this rose typically flowers once per season and may produce attractive hips. However, light deadheading can tidy the plant if desired.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring to support growth and flowering. A second, lighter feed after flowering helps strengthen the plant for the next season.

Watering: Water deeply during dry periods, especially during establishment. Ensure soil is free-draining to prevent root issues.

Pest Control: Check for common pests such as aphids and caterpillars on young growth. Treat infestations early with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Disease Management: Can be prone to black spot and mildew in humid conditions. Promote good air circulation by spacing and pruning appropriately. Remove any affected leaves and apply a fungicide preventatively if needed.
