Peony James Pillow

Free delivery on your entire order with any peony tuber. While stocks last.

Peony 'James Pillow' is a stunning herbaceous variety known for its large, fully double, soft pink flowers with a delicate, ruffled texture. The densely packed petals create a luxurious, rounded flower, while a subtle fragrance adds to its appeal. Flowering in late spring to early summer, this vigorous peony has strong stems that support its impressive flowers. Its deep green foliage remains attractive throughout the season, providing excellent contrast in garden beds and borders.

Ideal for garden beds, borders, and cut flower arrangements. Adds seasonal colour and structure to perennial plantings.

Thrives in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-draining soil. Space plants approximately 60 cm apart for optimal growth and airflow.

Grows to around 80–90 cm tall and 60–80 cm wide.

Trimming: Cut back foliage to ground level in late autumn once it has died back to encourage vigorous regrowth in spring.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to keep the plant tidy and redirect energy into the roots rather than seed production.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring as new growth emerges. After flowering, use a low-nitrogen fertiliser to support root development and improve next season’s flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can reduce flowers.

Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods. Deep, infrequent watering is best to encourage strong root growth.

Pest Control: Keep an eye out for aphids on young shoots and treat them with insecticidal soap or a firm spray of water if necessary.

Disease Management: Peonies can be prone to botrytis blight, which causes blackened stems and bud rot. Remove any affected plant material promptly and ensure good air circulation. Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal risks. A copper-based fungicide can help if needed.
